Optiv Sr. Consultant - AI and Data Governance | Remote, USA in Chicago, Illinois

This position will be fully remote and can be hired anywhere in the continental U.S.
Our Senior Consultants are skilled technical and consultative resources expected to be strong in both technical and soft skills. A Senior Consultant must be a proven self-starter with the ability to problem-solve, communicate, participate in diverse project teams from a technical perspective, and interface effectively with customers, vendor partners, and colleagues.
The Senior Consultant role will contribute to Optiv’s growing AI practice, focusing on securing AI use drawing focus from Optiv’s Data Governance, Privacy and Protection (DGPP) practice areas. The senior consultant will have strong experience in machine learning (ML), data classification, data governance, AI risk management, AI compliance requirements and large language models (LLMs). The ideal candidate will understand a wide range of technologies, global security and compliance frameworks to identify risks, identify value and opportunity, and focus on building and delivering governance and compliance capabilities to secure and manage AI/ML program technologies. Candidates must have a strong aptitude for learning and communicating perspectives on AI/ML, data governance, data protection, privacy, cybersecurity, risk management, compliance, etc.
How You Will Make an Impact
Research new and emerging compliance capabilities and risk management techniques to continually evolve Optiv’s security expertise around AI/ML strategy
Partner with Optiv technical experts in application, data, and operational security to build and implement leading practices for developing secure and responsible AI/ML systems
Author regular status updates and final deliverables during client engagements
Perform AI/ML readiness assessments, advise clients on AI governance program development and maturity activities, and advanced advisory activities through client services engagements
Provide tactical and strategic guidance and detailed remediation advice to help clients achieve stronger security postures and lower risk
Build and maintain professional relationships with client stakeholders and provide them with information about AI governance, data governance, data protection and privacy topics
Track and monitor current and trending practices for governing, managing, and deploying AI/ML applications and solutions
Lead and contribute to the development of AI/ML services, delivery processes, and capabilities across the team
Mentor and train team members in approaches to help scale Optiv's AI/ML DGPP services
Assist with evaluating AI/ML security market solutions for comparative efficacy and suitability to client needs
Obtain and evolve personal technical expertise, certifications, and industry credentials through formal and informal training and other learning initiatives
Contribute content to the Optiv blog and present on AI and data governance, privacy and protection topics via webinars, conferences, and other events
Review the work of other team members to confirm deliverables are of the highest quality
Identify and recommend improvements in Optiv’s methodologies and internal processes and provide input and support for updating consulting tools, techniques, and knowledge base
Establish and maintain productive relationships with the wider delivery team, practice management, and client management teams
What we're looking for
Previous job experience in an AI governance, data analytics, data governance, data protection, privacy, information security, risk management, compliance consulting services or enterprise team role
Practical experience (5+ years) in governance, security, or compliance role
Thorough knowledge of at least two data privacy or protection capabilities such as Data Access Governance (Netwrix, SailPoint, Varonis etc.), Data Classification (Fortra, Microsoft etc.), Data Discovery and Classification (Netwrix, Varonis, BigID, Securiti, etc.), Data Privacy Management (BigID, OneTrust, Securiti, etc.)
Understanding of and/or deep expertise in at least one standard compliance framework or regulatory standard including NIST AI RMF, NIST CSF, NIST 800-53, ISO 270xx, etc.
Understanding and ability to articulate principles of NIST, HIPAA, COBIT, GDPR, CCPA etc. as well as other industry recognized information security/privacy standards and industry leading practices
Contribution to project planning, engagement administration, budget management, and the successful completion of engagement work streams
Collaboration with business development teams responsible for writing and presenting proposals to prospective clients
Contribution to business development opportunities and/or engagements from pre-sale and initial scoping through final delivery and sign-off
Candidates must be willing to travel 50% for the first 4-6 months, after this time period travel is expected to taper down
Candidates must be willing and able to tour client facilities (factories, distribution warehouses, offices, etc.) and document observations. Client facilities may be expansive
Ability to work with diverse and dynamic teams
Ability to think critically and creatively solve complex problems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, or cybersecurity, or equivalent relevant working experience
Hold one or more certifications: AI Governance Professional (AIGP), Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
AI/ML Qualifications:
One or more years of experience with AI risk management and/or compliance
Experience leveraging specialized tools to test controls related to AI/ML systems
Working knowledge of machine learning, security techniques, and controls for AI/ML
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Data Protection and Generative AI technologies like Purview Information Protection, Purview Data Lifecycle Management, Purview eDiscovery, Copilot for M365 etc.;
Experience implementing Data Privacy and Generative AI tools within a complex business environment, through requirements gathering, building, testing, and production roll-out;
Familiarity with at least one of the following standards: ENISA, EU AI Act, NIST AI RMF, OWASP Top 10 lists for LLMs and/or MITRE ATLAS
General working knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Microsoft CoPilot, OpenAI, ChatGPT, Gemini, Amazon Q, Bedrock or other LLM or AI models
Ability to explain the various machine learning risks and compensating controls
Experience training or educating technical and non-technical audiences about AI/ML security
Knowledge of AI risks such as bias, hallucination, prompt injection and others
Knowledge of legal and regulatory landscape around trustworthy AI
Experience building AI guiding principles and AI Governance
Salary Range Description
$116,500.00 - $156,000.00 Annual
The Hiring Range provided for this role is informed by (but not limited to) various factors including responsibilities of the position, work experience, education/training, internal peer equity, geography, as well as other market influences when extending an offer. The disclosed range has not been adjusted for these factors. This role may also be eligible to participate in a variable incentive-based bonus plan. Optiv offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, of which salary is a component.
